Patti Bradley, Charlottetown, has been a Special Olympics PEI athlete for 3 years. Patti joined Special Olympics after finishing high school. She knew others athletes who participated, and decided to check out the programs for herself after receiving lots of positive encouragement from her friends. The sense of fun and comradery she felt from her friends made Patti want to join. Patti first started participating in the Charlottetown 5-Pin Bowling program. While Patti has also participated in Soccer and Softball, 5-Pin Bowling remains her favourite sport.
Patti will be representing PEI at the 2018 National Bowling Championships. She was selected to Team PEI following strong results at the 2017 Provincial Bowling Championships, including a Gold Medal performance on the lanes. Patti is excited about competing in the National Bowling Championships, and is looking forward to meeting her people. In preparation for the National Bowling Championships Patti is bowling twice a week, participating in the CrossFit 782 Performance Program, and doing Yoga on Fridays.
Patti works at Stars for Life in Charlottetown. Through their day program Patti volunteers at Beach Grove Home with their art program. Stars for Life helps Patti with life and computer skills. Each day at the program Patti also participates in an exercise program.
The 2017 Provincial Bowling Championships have been a highlight of Patti's time in Special Olympics. She enjoys seeing everyone participating and encouraging each other to do their best.
Patti's mother, Barb, sees the importance of Special Olympics for gaining confidence and developing life skills. Barb sees personal growth in the athletes, including Patti, and enjoys seeing the athletes finding success in sport. In watching Patti and her friends participating and competing, Barb notes how comfortable all of the athletes are in their setting.
