Special Olympics PEI is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This group of dedicated Islanders dedicate their time and talents to enriching the lives of Islanders with an intellectual disability through their volunteer service on our Board.
This week it is our pleasure to introduce one of our Directors at Large, Lynda Hontscharowicz.
Meet Lynda Hontscharowicz
Lynda Hontscharowicz joined Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors in 2022 and serves as a Director at Large. In addition to her role on the Board, Lynda has volunteered a both the 5-Pin Bowling and Bocce programs in Charlottetown for the past 5 years. Lynda was also a member of the Mission Staff with Team PEI 2020 at the Special Olympics Canada National Games in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Furthermore, Lynda is always quick to volunteer for fundraising events, including the upcoming LETR Polar Plunge. After 30 years in various positions in Healthcare and Human Resources with the Provincial Government, Lynda retired in 2021.
Lynda joined Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors with the goal of assisting with operational support. Lynda has seen first hand the benefit of Special Olympics programs for our athletes, including her brother, Tommy Ling.
When asked about her favourite Special Olympics moment, Lynda said, "I have a few but the one that stands out the most is at the Provincial Bowling Tournament. The excitement, expectation and anticipation the athletes have waiting for the ceremony to start. Who is going to win, are they going to get a medal. No matter if they win or not, the athletes cheer for the next winner with so much enthusiasm."
