Join Special Olympics BC for National Coaches Week as we spotlight coach Kim Turney and other coaches across the province who make a difference in the lives of athletes with intellectual disabilities, their families and other volunteers every single day.
Turney first became involved in coaching for SOBC – Fort St. John when his son began 5-pin bowling. “I saw the need for coaches and began my coaching journey,” he says.
He says he has learned that the athletes are way more capable than we may expect. “I love to see my athletes meet their goals, learn a skill and then master that skill and to see the athletes leave their comfort zones,” he says. “These all show growth in the athletes.”
His most memorable experience during his involvement with Special Olympics BC was when he watched his son win a medal for Special Olympics Team BC at National Games in 2018.
“There is a huge need for volunteers in our organization,” he says. “It will be the most rewarding experience.”
Thank you for the tremendous positive impact you have on your community!
