Thien Lam self-portrait

Thien Lam started his journey with Special Olympics when his mom took him to a basketball practice in 2009. Since then, he has never looked back. Four years later, he competed on the national stage in basketball at the 2014 Special Olympics Summer Games in Vancouver!

After winning gold with the Mission Blazers floor hockey team at the 2023 Special Olympics BC Winter Games, Lam is ready to return to the national stage at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024! He joins 141 other athletes on the Special Olympics Team BC 2024 Training Squad, who are all ready to showcase their abilities and connect with members of the Special Olympics community from across the country.

“Being part of SO Team BC 2024 means many opportunities for me to develop further skills, gain more confidence, and make new friends,” Lam says.

“Competing at National Games means I get to experience a new and diverse level of competition that will help me be a stronger and more well-rounded athlete in the sport I will compete in.”

Throughout his achievements, memories, and successes with Special Olympics, Lam is always grateful to those who have supported him, especially his mom.
“I have an amazing, supportive network that has been with me since I've been with Special Olympics, but my mom is the best support that I could ever ask for in my journey as an athlete,” he says.
