Team PEI 2024's Speed Skating Team will be represented by 2 athletes at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 - Logan Robbins (St. Peter's Harbour) and Jordan Koughan (Johnston's River). They are supported by Head Coach, Larry Robbins.
Both Logan and Jordan are experienced Special Olympics athletes, having been involved for 11 and 17 years respectively. Logan and Jordan both competed at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2020 in Speed Skating. 2020 was the first time in recent history that PEI had athletes compete in Speed Skating at a National Games. Both athletes experienced great success, and are working hard again, on and off the ice, in the hopes of repeating that success. Team PEI Speed Skating has elevated their training this time around, working closely with Registered Dietician, and Team PEI Training Coach, Nancy Fong.
Larry Robbins became involved coaching with Special Olympics in the same way many parents of athletes do. There was a need, and he stepped up to help. When Special Olympics PEI put out a call for coaches for Speed Skating, Larry volunteered, wanting to help the athletes, including his son, Logan, reach their full potential, and have fun doing it! In additional to coaching Speed Skating, Larry also volunteers with Soccer and Golf. While Larry has attended National Games in the past, as a parent cheering on Logan, the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 will be Larry's first National Games in a coaching role. Larry is most looking forward to the Opening Ceremonies, and being mixed in with Team PEI athletes, coaches, and mission staff.
In February / March of 2024, Special Olympics PEI will be represented by 33 athletes, supported by 21 coaches and mission staff, at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 in Calgary, Alberta. Team PEI will compete in 7 sports: 5-Pin Bowling, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey, Snowshoeing, and Speed Skating. Be sure to follow along between now and February as we continue to Meet Team PEI 2024!
Supporters of Special Olympics PEI are invited to follow Team PEI 2024, both in the lead-up to, and during the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024! Our Team PEI 2024's website will be updated with schedules and results during the Games, and our social media channels - Facebook and Instagram, will have photos and up to the minute news and highlights.
