A dedicated coach since 2017, Kevin Phillips of Special Olympics BC – Kimberley/Cranbrook is passionate about empowering athletes with intellectual disabilities. He is the Head Coach of cross country skiing and has played an instrumental role in developing and supporting athletes in his community.
Kevin has an excellent rapport with all of his cross country skiers and coaches. He regularly holds coaching meetings to hear from his assistants on how to continually improve the program and to best support each other and the athletes. Together with his leadership, they are able to foster an inclusive program where every participant supports one another and feels like a valued member of the team.
Kevin brings a positive and cheerful attitude. He is always willing to share his experiences with the team and celebrates the unique abilities and contributions of all his athletes and fellow coaches. Athletes and caregivers all say how much they feel supported and included by Kevin and appreciate his enthusiasm for coaching his athletes and mentoring them as people.
Congratulations to Kevin and to all of the deserving 2023 award nominees!
SOBC looks forward to honouring all the deserving winners and nominees in a virtual awards ceremony on September 20, 2023 at 6 p.m. PT, helping open the next sport season with an inspiring celebration! Stay tuned for details!
