Special Olympics PEI is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. This group of dedicated Islanders dedicate their time and talents to enriching the lives of Islanders with an intellectual disability through their volunteer service on our Board.
This week it is our pleasure to introduce our Board Secretary, Rebecca Gill.
Meet Rebecca Gill
Rebecca Gill joined Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors in 2022 and serves as Board Secretary. Rebecca brings 20 years of financial and human resources experience in the public service to Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors. Rebecca is currently the Acting Director of Health Workforce, Recruitment and Pharmaceutical Services with the Department of Health and Wellness.
Rebecca's desire to join Special Olympics PEI's Board stems from her experience volunteering at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2004, which were hosting in PEI, in addition to her desire to be involved in volunteer roles in the community. Back in 2004, Rebecca was struck by how amazing the Special Olympics environment was for the athletes, and how engaged and connected the parents, coaches and spectators were. This positive sport and life experience inspired Rebecca to want to contribute, and her desire to be involved with Special Olympics in some capacity remained strong.
When asked about her favourite Special Olympics moment, Rebecca said, "Watching the athletes support each other in their attempts and in their successes, it is powerful!"
