The NCCP Special Olympics Competition Sport Workshop is required for Special Olympics BC coaches. All SOBC coaches (except for Active Start and FUNdamentals) must complete this certification within their first year of coaching Special Olympics athletes.
The workshop helps equip coaches to empower athletes with intellectual disabilities. It covers various associated disabilities, basic delivery of sport skills, sport-specific and competition-based fitness, competition, and safety.
SOBC offers virtual and in-person NCCP Special Olympics workshops throughout each sport season, making it easy for coaches to access the course. In-person workshops are hosted in locations around the province as dictated by regional or local demand.
