There have been changes in Special Olympics BC’s Sport & Programs and Fundraising teams!
After four years of outstanding sport planning and leadership, especially in her thorough and skillful management of SOBC’s Return to Sport Plan, Sport Manager Helen Cheung has departed to pursue new opportunities and studies of Occupational Health and Safety at BCIT. We’re fortunate that Helen has promised to soon return to her roots as an SOBC volunteer!
We have united the Sport team and the Program team under one Manager. Michelle Cruickshank, formerly our inspiring Program Manager, will lead both teams as SOBC Sport Manager. She will work closely with Lois McNary, SOBC’s dedicated Vice President, Sport, to grow and develop these areas. The team currently consists of Sport Coordinators Jean Tetarenko (competition), Steph Stresing (health), and Garrett Chance (youth engagement), as well as the Community Development Coordinators.
We’re thrilled to welcome Community Development Coordinators Amy Gibb (Region 6) and Tyson Watson (Regions 7 and 8), joining Melainie Hatt (Region 1), Leanne Kelly (Region 2), and Chelsea Rogers (Regions 3, 4, and 5). Amy brings years of experience as a SOBC – Cowichan Valley coach and Local Committee volunteer, and as a community support worker in the Region. Tyson is a longtime Prince George resident and has a strong background in recreation and kinesiology. Both have jumped into their roles with passion and purpose!
Sydney Hall departed from the Region 7 & 8 staff position earlier this year, taking on exciting new opportunities in Prince George, but she has generously continued making a difference by returning to SOBC volunteer roles.
The Fundraising team recently bid a fond farewell to Fund Development Manager Charlotte Taylor, after seven years of passionate and creative work on our fundraising events and initiatives. Charlotte cares deeply about SOBC’s community members and movement. She made a difference and we are excited for her new opportunities. She is committed to staying involved as a volunteer SOBC Athlete Leadership facilitator!
SOBC is now hiring a Fund Development Coordinator (Donor Relations) and an Office Administrator.
