Devyn Scott
Special Olympics Team BC 2020 Alpine Skiing Coach

When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I became involved with Special Olympics seven years ago when I moved up to Kelowna. I have been inspired since I was young to get involved as I grew up seeing just how much joy being a part of Special Olympics brought to my dad and wanted to experience it too!

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

Yes.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

To me, it is a true honour to have been selected to represent B.C. and I am so grateful that I get to work with such an amazing group of athletes, coaches, and mission staff. My athletes inspire me every day and to get to support them at the national level is a dream come true.

What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?

My number one goal is to help make this experience the best it could possibly be for everyone I encounter.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

My first dance at Regional Qualifiers is definitely one I will never forget. If you know, you know!

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

For my athletes, this higher level of competition is huge. I have one athlete that I have coached from the first day I became involved who is traveling to nationals for the first time and it is a major accomplishment for him! The dedication and growth he has shown is inspiring to anyone and keeps me going every year!

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

You will not regret it! I have met some of the most incredible people through this organization and I have been changed for the better.
