When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I started Special Olympics in 1996 and I did it to get active, to have a healthy lifestyle, to meet new people and to travel to places I have never been before.
Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
No, I have been to four other Nationals (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016) where I did snowshoeing and two Nationals (2014 and 2018) for track and field.
What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?
I got a silver in the 800 metres, came fourth in the 400 metres, and got two golds in the 1600 metres and the relay.
What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?
I have a chance to probably meet some of my old friends from all over the province and all over Canada as well.
What is your goal for these National Games?
To do my personal best as always and hopefully improve my times.
What does competing at National Games mean to you?
By competing at Nationals, I will be able to reconnect with some Canadian Special Olympics athletes I know well.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
I am a veteran in snowshoeing and I would like to meet the snowshoe track I will race at in Thunder Bay.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
My favourite Special Olympics experience is going to Korea for snowshoeing in 2013.
What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?
I would tell them that it helps get people active, visit new places, and meet new friends.
What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?
Besides snowshoeing I also do Club Fit, swimming, track and field, floor hockey, and softball.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
I want people to know that I am kind, caring and a true motivator.
What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)
Excited.
