Special Olympics BC Local:

When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

28 years. During my youth I went to a special school then to Operation Trackshoes. I was assisted as I was having difficulty even walking then. My first sport I started was 5-pin bowling.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

Yes, this will be my first Special Olympics Canada Games.

What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?

Our team won gold. I was over the moon. I'm so proud of our team for the win and proud of all the other bowlers who all tried so hard. We had fun.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

Awesome. We all try so hard. We are all winners.

What is your goal for these National Games?

Let me win, and if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

It's a great achievement. It shows that anyone of us can get to the top with hard work, working through our disabilities.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

It is a sport that my health and physical disabilities allow me to perform at my best. It's also fun.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Winning the gold medal in Vernon at the Provincial Winter Games. It was great to go to Games in the coast for the Provincials.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

Try it. It may surprise you what you can do

What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

Bocce.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I have had many health issues to overcome, but that has never stopped me from always trying with a smile. I love crafts, word searches, shopping and like to look after my appearance. I also like to assist with home chores. I love to party and visiting friends and family. Mom calls me her social butterfly.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Awesome.
