Jennifer Hickox, Charlottetown, joined Special Olympics 12 years ago. Jenn, who had just moved into Charlottetown, started participating in Special Olympics programs because she wanted to meet her people, join a team, and do something meaningful with her time. Jenn started off participating in 5-Pin Bowling, and now participates in Bocce, Floor Hockey and Soccer as well. Jenn will be representing PEI at the 2018 National Summer Games in the sport of Bocce.
In preparation for the 2018 National Summer Games Jenn is training in Bocce every Tuesday evening with her coach. She is also bowling once a week and participating in the Synergy Performance Program.
The 2018 National Summer Games will be Jenn's second National Games. She competed in 5-Pin Bowling at the 2014 National Summer Games in Vancouver. When asked about a highlight from the 2014 Games, Jenn says she enjoyed the scenery of the West coast, meeting new people, and bowling.
Over the last 12 years Jenn has had many great memories with Special Olympics. An avid bowler, her favourite memory is winning Top Female at the 2011 5-Pin Bowling Provincials. Jenn believes that others should join Special Olympics because it is a great way to meet new people. She says Special Olympics is a great organization, and offers a place of encouragement over judgement.
