Special Olympics PEI is thrilled to announce that Darryl Sutter, 2-Time Stanley Cup Winning Head Coach and Joe Salerno, Head Coach and VP of Player Development for the Island Storm, will be attending the 2017 Special Olympics Festival.
Darryl Sutter, a former NHL coach and player, is a 2-Time Stanley Cup Winning Head Coach. Sutter was most recently Head Coach of the Los Angeles Kings, where he won the 2 titles. Sutter was also behind the bench for the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Joe Salerno returns to the Special Olympics Festival for another year. Salerno is the Head Coach and Vice President of Player Personnel for the Island Storm. Salerno is the former coach of the Vermont Frost Heaves before joining the Island (formerly Summerside) Storm in 2011. Salerno was named NBL Canada Co-Coach of the Year in the 2012-2013 season. On January 29, 2016, Salerno became the NBL’s All-Time winningest coach in league history when he surpassed Michael Ray-Richardson with his 102nd NBL Canada win.
Additional celebrities confirmed for the 2017 event include Ottawa Senator’s Defenseman, Dion Phaneuf and TV Personality and former host of Canada AM, Jeff Hutcheson. The Special Olympics Festival is Special Olympics PEI’s largest annual fundraiser. Funds raised enrich the lives of Islanders with an intellectual disability through sport. Special Olympics PEI relies on these funds to offer grass roots programing, quality competitions, trained coaches, and much more for athletes of all ages and ability levels. The Festival is a two part event which includes the Summerside Luncheon (being held at the Credit Union Place) and the Enriching Lives Gala (in Charlottetown at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel). This year’s event is being held on Monday, June 26th.
Tickets for the Luncheon are $40 each, or $300 for a corporate table of 8, while tickets for the Gala are $110 each, or $880 for a corporate table of 8, and are available by calling Charity Sheehan at 902-368-8919.
