Callum McEwan, Charlottetown, has been a Special Olympics athlete for 7 years. The Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 will be Callum's first World Games!
Callum joined Special Olympics to support his participation in the sport of Figure Skating, being drawn to the inclusiveness Special Olympics provides. A former coach of Callum's guided him towards Special Olympics. Callum credits Special Olympics with opening up opportunities and allowing him to follow a path that suites him. Before Special Olympics Callum recalls "a time when skating practice stopped being enjoyable and the circumstances were no longer supportive. We changed my environment and had new people around me, and it is now better than ever. Sometimes a change in circumstance is needed to find your happiness."
While Figure Skating is the only Special Olympics sport Callum participates in, he stays busy and active, participating in soccer, skiing, swimming, parkour and tennis.
In the lead-up to the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, Callum has been supported by local training coach, Cindy Stavert. Cindy Stavert, while new to Special Olympics coaching, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. She was first introduced to Special Olympics Figure Skating watching the Special Olympics divisions at the 2023 Canada Games in PEI. The sheer joy of their accomplishments was a highlight for Cindy. Cindy works for both the Kensington Area Skating Club and the Alberton Silver Blades Skating Club.

Join us on February 20th (storm date February 27th) for a Send-Off as we celebrate the 6 Islanders who are travelling to Italy as part of Special Olympics Team Canada for the World Winter Games!
Door will open at 6:30PM, for a 7:00PM start, following the event there will be light refreshments, and the opportunity to wish these Team members all the best!

The Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 are taking place March 8-15, 2025. Special Olympics Team Canada is composed of 91 athletes and 43 coaches, mission staff, and leadership members. These Games are the world's largest sports and humanitarian event, composed of more than 1,500 athletes from 102 delegations.
