Pan American Silver Corporation, is one of Special Olympics BC’s newest sponsors. Now entering their second year of sponsorship, Pan American Silver came on board at a critical time for SOBC.
People with intellectual disabilities have historically experienced isolation and exclusion, which has only been amplified by the COVD-19 pandemic. Special Olympics volunteers are working hard to start bringing back life-changing programs to athletes across British Columbia. Pan American Silver began their support as SOBC developed a Return to Sport Plan, and they continue to support the rebuilding of SOBC’s sports and programs. Today, they are helping to bring sport programs, competitions, and friendships back to communities across the province.
Pan American Silver’s support will help reconnect athletes like Kayley Olund-Rak, SOBC – Surrey, with her Special Olympics family, and get back onto the fields of play.
“Special Olympics has immensely helped my physical and mental health, and given me something I never would have expected… an entire community of athletes, coaches, and volunteers that are not only friends but family. That inspire you and drive you and give you courage to be the best you can be,” she said.
Brent Bergeron, Pan American Silver Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, is a long-standing supporter of SOBC. A valued member of SOBC’s Board of Directors, his commitment to providing empowering experiences and opportunities to individuals with intellectual disabilities is truly inspiring.
With Pan American Silver’s support, we can look forward to seeing more athletes back in action. We are extremely grateful for their generosity!
