Involved with Special Olympics BC since 1988, Kelowna’s Tracey Melesko has been a longtime trailblazer of the Special Olympics movement in B.C

As one of the most accomplished and decorated athletes in the history of SOBC, Melesko has competed in many Special Olympics competitions on the provincial, national, and international levels. In recognition of her outstanding athletic abilities and achievements, she was the first athlete with an intellectual disability to be carded Sport Canada.

Melesko looks to add to her prestigious list of accomplishments, as she is currently training hard for the Special Olympics Canada National Winter Games 2024 in cross country skiing! She joins 11 other athletes from the cross country skiing team of the Special Olympics Team BC 2024 Training Squad

Fresh off their training camp in November 2023, the cross country skiing team is excited to be going to National Games with high spirits and a confident approach. Through their team bonding activities during their training camp, athletes are poised to give it their all!

With her wealth of experience in Special Olympics, Melesko looks to share her knowledge and wisdom with her teammates. Her goal is to “be a mentor for all the new athletes who are on the team.”
