Special Olympics BC’s Board of Directors provides vital guidance for our organization and movement, and SOBC benefits significantly from the efforts of these valued volunteers.
At the 2021 SOBC Annual General Meeting, the Board of Directors elected a new Executive Committee comprised of dedicated leaders both long-standing and new to the organization.
Wheaton Precious Metals President & CEO Randy Smallwood, a longtime champion of Special Olympics, was elected to the role of Chair.
Grant Thornton Partner Colin Yakashiro, a past Treasurer on the SOBC Board, was elected to the role of Vice Chair.
Canaccord Genuity’s Ted Hirst transitioned to the role of Past Chair after his years of vital leadership as Chair. Hirst is Canaccord Genuity’s Managing Director, Investment Banking - Global Head of Resources.
MoneyTalks Host and Publisher Michael Campbell, a member of the SOBC Hall of Fame as a vital Provincial Builder, was re-elected as Secretary.
Ryan Hoag, MNP Regional Managing Partner, Lower Mainland, joined the Board Executive as Treasurer. “Pleased to join the Board of Special Olympics British Columbia,” Hoag said on LinkedIn. “An incredible organization where athletes with intellectual disabilities see themselves for their abilities and communities across B.C. become more inclusive.”
Dueck Auto Group Co-owner and SOBC Hall of Fame member Pamela Keith stepped off the Executive Committee after many years of service. Fortunately for our movement, she is staying on a member of the Board of Directors.
The valued Directors who were re-elected to the Board:
- Ashley Adie, SOBC – Campbell River athlete
- Brent Bergeron, Pan American Silver Corp. Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability
- Donna Bilous, SOBC Leadership Council Chair
- Grenville Finch-Noyes, Gallagher Senior V.P. Risk Management and Consulting, BC Region
- Devinder Gill, RBC Regional Vice President, Business Financial Services, British Columbia
- Pamela Keith, Dueck Auto Group Co-owner
- Nicola Lambrechts, NLK Strategies Founder and President
- Richard J. Lucy, BC Law Enforcement Torch Run Provincial Director and SOBC Hall of Fame member
We are so thankful for these caring volunteer leaders who generously share so much expertise and passion, and are so genuinely committed to ensuring the best for Special Olympics BC athletes, volunteers, families, and supporters.
Tragically, in November 2021 the Board of Directors lost a valued leader with the passing of Eamonn Percy, President of The Percy Group. Percy was a strong and respected member of the Board from 2016 until his passing. He generously and continuously contributed his expertise and support to our movement in many areas, including technology, business, leadership, and awareness initiatives.
