Special Olympics BC is proud to partner with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) for two Vancouver Canadiansbaseball games this summer.
SOBC will be part of the Vancouver Canadians games at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on July 19 and August 14 as part of the Superstar Series promotion.
As part of the partnership with Blakes, the first 1,000 fans through the door on July 19 will receive a commemorative card featuring former Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia, who will be in attendance. In addition, there will be giveaways and contest prizes courtesy of SOBC, plus an SOBC athlete will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
On August 14, New Westminster baseball product Justin Morneau makes his visit to Scotiabank Field and will be the featured card, in addition to the SOBC giveaways and contest prizes, and the SOBC ceremonial first pitch.
Dan Howe, President & CEO of Special Olympics BC, said he is grateful for the chance to be part of these games alongside Blakes.
“As Special Olympics gets set to celebrate its 50th anniversary, it’s a great opportunity to reach a whole new audience with the Vancouver Canadians,” Howe said. “They have a long and storied history in Vancouver and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”
Bill Maclagan, Vancouver Office Managing Partner at Blakes, said they are very pleased to partner with Special Olympics BC and the Vancouver Canadians for its Superstar Series this year.
“For 50 years in Canada, Special Olympics has celebrated inclusion, diversity, excellence, competition and courage,” Maclagan said. “This is what Blakes is all about and why we chose to partner with Special Olympics BC this year. Special Olympics athletes are all superstars and it is fitting that in this year, with the National Games in Antigonish, that we can partner with them, their great athletes, families, and coaches in celebrating our baseball superstars.”
Maclagan said he wanted to thank all the SOBC athletes and volunteers for partnering with them in the 2018 Superstar Series.
“Congratulations on 50 great years of competition and support for great Canadian athletes,” he said.
The Vancouver Canadians are the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays and have four Northwest League titles under their belt including the 2017 championship.
Special Olympics BC athletes will be part of the opening ceremonies at the game, throwing out the first pitch, prizes and giveaways, and volunteers will be on hand with an information booth for anyone looking to get involved with Special Olympics BC, either as an athlete or as a volunteer.
