Team BC 5- and 10-pin bowlers had a wonderful day on the lanes at the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Bowling Championships!
The first day of competition saw many athletes performing well above their averages, and resulted in a silver and bronze medal for Team BC in the 10-pin bowling team competition!
In addition to the bowling excitement, athletes also had a chance to get to know their host province and try their hand at creating some East Coast art between games.
5-pin bowling
Team BC 5-pin bowlers were in great form as they faced competitors from around the country during match play at Murphy’s Community Centre in Charlottetown. Many rocked the scoreboard and achieved point totals that were higher than their average scores. SOBC – Dawson Creek athlete Ronnie Collington hit his stride today, coming into the Championships with an average of 132, over his three games he exceeded this average by 176 points!
Five-pin bowlers will continue their match play tomorrow through Saturday. Final team and individual results will be posted when they become available on Saturday, May 19. Full daily match results can be found on the Bowling Championships website.

10-pin bowling
Playing in teams of four, today’s 10-pin bowling team competition brought in a silver medal for the BC1 team made up of Michael Harris, Rachel Peers, Dale Ramsden, and Gabriel Young, and a bronze medal for BC3 comprised of Lucia Busto, Yvonne LeRuyet, Amanda Littlejohn, and Tanya Steinhausen! The 10-pin team is in high spirits and playing very well, with many athletes surpassing their averages.
The excitement continues tomorrow with the doubles 10-pin competition, followed by the singles 10-pin competition on Friday.
