Special Olympics BC Local
Campbell River
When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
2015. I was asked to give a hand to the coaches in curling.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
Yes.
What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?
It allows me to view first-hand what can be achieved by a group of athletes, coaches, and support staff all working towards the same goals for the right reasons.
What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?
My goal is to give our athletes the best chance to win without sacrificing the fun or the integrity of the sport while representing SOBC.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Watching our SO curlers being openly accepted into main stream curling leagues over the past eight years.
What storylines are you excited to see develop in your SO Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?
The majority of our curlers have been together for eight years and have made huge strides both in curling and making mainstream curlers and the general public aware of how good of a fit SO is when given a chance.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
SO is like getting a new pair of shoes, they may take a little breaking in, but as soon they are comfortable, you won't look any further.
