Special Olympics BC Local

Campbell River

When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I started volunteering in my Local as a parent of an athlete 13 years ago and loved it! I was recruited as the Athlete Registration Coordinator shortly after that. I have been involved in the curling program since 2015.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

I went to the 2016 National Games in Corner Brook with as a coach for curling.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?

This has been my dream since I started coaching curling to bring a team from my Local in Campbell River.

What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?

To prepare our athletes to compete at a national level and have the best experience possible.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

There are so many wonderful memories that I will always cherish but I think having a team from Campbell River selected to be part of SO Team BC is definitely my dream for these amazing athletes that have been training so hard for this to happen.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

Competing at National Games has been a dream of our curling athletes for eight years. This will be the first National Games for curling from our Local and they are so proud to be part of SO Team BC.

What storylines are you excited to see develop in your SO Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?

We will be training hard, doing some team bonding activities, staying connected with the rest of SO Team BC.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

Volunteering with Special Olympics is the most rewarding experience you will ever know.
