When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I got involved with Special Olympics about five years ago as an assistant and then a coach. Our son Justin was the motivation to get involved.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
Yes this will be my first Special Olympics Canada Games.
What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?
I'm very excited to be part of the team. I love cross country skiing and helping the athletes to do their best.
What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?
My goals are to help out where needed, make it a great experience for the athletes, develop as a Special Olympics coach, and get the wax right :)
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Travelling to Austria to see our son compete in cross country skiing at the last Special Olympics World Winter Games [2017].
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
They are excited and proud to be going to Nationals. They want to do their best and maybe even bring home some medals.
What storylines are you excited to see develop in your Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?
Seeing the athletes enjoying the journey and encouraging each other along the way no matter what level they are at.
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
Special Olympics athletes are amazing people; there are a variety of sports and ways to get involved. Pick something you love and sign up.
