Where can I find my Local's contact information?
You can find your Local’s contact information by visiting your Community Program page or contact Special Olympics BC Staff by visiting our Contact page.

What to do if I can't attend a practice?
Our athletes form a strong bond with all our coaches, and the Head Coach of every program depends on you to run weekly practices. If you need to take a day off, please inform the Head Coach as early as possible so that they can plan adequately in advance.

If you are the Head Coach and are unable to attend a practice, either ask one of your Assistant Coaches to take on the role for the week or announce the session cancellation and inform the Volunteer Coordinator or Local Coordinator in your Local.

Regional Competition is usually hosted once per season. Athletes and coaches must travel to and compete in competitions. A ratio of athlete-to-coach must be met to ensure safe sport at these competitions. Please inform the Head Coach as soon as you can if you cannot attend. All costs are covered by the Local. All coaches that attend Regional Qualifiers may advance to coaching at Provincial, National and/or World Games.

My availability has changed. How do I switch to a different program?

Inform the coaches of your current program at least 2 weeks prior. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator of your community to discuss a different placement in other programs that work with your new schedule.

I have recently moved to a different city. How do I switch to a different community?
You can sign up for programs by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator or looking up the Local contact information by visiting the Community Program page

If you are moving out of province, please contact the other Chapters of Special Olympics.

I am no longer available to volunteer. How do I resign?
Please inform the Head Coaches in your program, Volunteer Coordinator or Community Development Coordinator in your community as soon as possible depending on your volunteer role.

The current season is coming to an end, how do I sign up for programs for an upcoming season?
Volunteers are required to register annually with their Local to participate in programs. Please indicate your interests on the registration form and send it to the Volunteer Coordinator or the designated Committee member in your Local.

Can I sign up to volunteer in two or more Locals?
Program volunteers can choose programs that work best with their schedule and location; however, it is advised that Coaches and Local Committee members refrain from joining two different Locals to avoid potential conflicts of interest. Please contact your Regional Coordinator or Community Development Coordinator to be exempted depending on your position and situation.

Event volunteers can sign up in two or more Locals depending on availability and event needs.

How do I get a reference letter?
Please contact your Head Coach and Local Committee to confirm your attendance and performance. We will provide a reference letter to volunteers who meet the minimum attendance.

Coaches and Local Committee can contact Community Development Coordinators in your region and/or the Engagement Coordinator if you require support with reference letters.
