Goldcorp is an important and dedicated supporter of Special Olympics BC. For nearly 13 years, their significant contributions have been making a difference to athletes with intellectual disabilities across the province.
Thanks to Goldcorp’s generous support, SOBC has been able to develop vital opportunities for athletes of all ages to train, compete, and improve their health.
Initially starting as a major sponsor for the Final Fore Golf Tournament in 2005, Goldcorp increased their support five years later with a commitment of $1 million to help SOBC develop youth programs. In 2014, Goldcorp renewed their support by pledging an additional $1 million over four years.
These gifts helped SOBC increase the number of youth programs offered around the province from 30 to 115, giving more children with intellectual disabilities the chance to learn vital motor and sport skills in a safe and supportive environment. They also helped SOBC offer empowering and enriching sport programs in communities across B.C., as well as important opportunities for health screenings and medical intervention.
“Goldcorp’s support has been truly game-changing,” said SOBC President & CEO Dan Howe. “Their donations have allowed SOBC to make significant strides and help expand and enhance our opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities of all ages.”
The company is also the longtime title sponsor of the Goldcorp Invitational Golf Tournament, an inspiring annual event that provides important funding for Special Olympics BC programs throughout the province. The tournament has been a huge success year after year, thanks to the help of many Goldcorp representatives who give their time as part of the event organizing committee. To date, the tournament has raised nearly $2.8 million for Special Olympics BC.
Goldcorp is passionate about making a difference for Special Olympics athletes. Speaking at the Goldcorp Invitational Golf Tournament in 2016, Goldcorp Chairman Ian Telfer told the crowd, “It’s such an important cause, and it makes such an impact on the lives of the people we try to help.”
We are incredibly grateful to Goldcorp for being a vital sponsor of our work. Their generous support has made a big impact and helped Special Olympics BC provide important, empowering, and enriching opportunities for athletes throughout B.C.
