About the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games

  • The 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games will be hosted in Prince George on July 10 to 12.
  • These are Special Olympics BC’s first Provincial Summer Games since 2017! The pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2021 Special Olympics BC Summer Games. The 2023 Special Olympics BC Winter Games were hosted in Kamloops.
  • Provincial Games are exciting and empowering experiences for Special Olympics BC athletes with intellectual disabilities. For many, these Games offer their first opportunity to experience the joy of travelling and being part of a team. They will have the chance to chase their goals and be celebrated for their abilities and their accomplishments.
  • More than 1,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities from all over B.C. and Yukon will compete with pride, supported by more than 400 volunteer coaches and mission staff.  
  • Approximately 1,000 volunteers and sponsor support will be needed to make this life-changing event a reality. Get involved and get inspired!
  • There will be 10 sports at the 2025 SOBC Games: 10-pin bowling, basketball, bocce, golf, rhythmic gymnastics, powerlifting, soccer, softball, swimming, and track and field.
  • More than 2,000 medals will be awarded to competitors!
  • Prince George is already home to outstanding Special Olympics athletes, volunteers, and programs, as SOBC – Prince George offers year-round sport, youth, and fitness programs.  
  • This will be the third time Prince George has hosted Special Olympics BC Games.
  • Athletes qualified to compete in the 2025 SOBC Games through their performances in Regional Qualifiers held throughout the province from February to July 2024.
  • The dedicated competitors will be shooting for personal-best performances, and they will also be chasing the opportunity to advance to national and international levels of competition. Top performers in Prince George will qualify for spots on Team BC for the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, which will be the qualifier for the 2027 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile.
