Keeping Active for Life!

Special Olympics Newfoundland & Labrador is not just for adults! Special Olympics is about creating opportunities for individuals with an intellectual disability to be Active for Life - leading to a healthier life with benefits such as adopting healthy eating habits, a social group, and of course increased physical literacy.

Special Olympics Canada has developed a model for our athletes that ensures their physical well-being is nurtured from a very young age onward.  With initiatives like Active Start and FUNdamentals for our young athletes, as well as our programs/sports that for adults, Special Olympics has become a well-respected organization in the athletic field.

Acting as a framework for those who choose to stay Active for Life in our clubs or those who seek to reach the podium in competitive training program, the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model guides the physical literacy of each individual with an intellectual disability.  Special Olympics Canada uses the same LTAD model as sports organizations across Canada.
