Upcoming Events for March 21, 2017
● Floor hockey Teams East will take on Costa Rica at 11:30 and Hungary at 6:00, while Team West will face Team South Africa at 11:30.
● Speed skaters will compete in the 777m final, with medal presentations to follow in the afternoon in downtown Graz.
● Figure skaters are on deck in the afternoon, with ice dance and level 1 free skate for ladies and men.
● Giant slalom finals are happening for the alpine team.
● The cross country team is on deck for 7.5km finals and 100m finals.
● Snowshoers will partake in the 200m finals and divisioning for 4x100m and 4x400m.
● Almost all of Team Canada based in Graz will head to a family and friends reception in the skybar in Graz to celebrate the Games and the incredible feats of Team Canada athletes so far!

Highlights from March 20, 2017
● Day 2 of competition was a busy one for both venues, with the first medals being awarded for speed skating and more medals for cross country
● Speed skate athletes Paige Norton, Matt Williams, Evan James and Stephen Graham all participated in the 1000m race. Paige had a first place finish, taking home the gold medal, while Matt had a personal best race, beating his previous time by 5 seconds, taking home a silver medal. Evan and Stephen also had great performances, with taking home a silver medal and Stephen, unfortunately fell during his race, but still managed to make a great time and place fourth. Amiee Gordon was on fire, shaving 12 seconds off her personal best time in her 333m prelim race.
● Figure skaters continued to perform on the ice, competing in the level 4, 5 and 6 compulsory elements for both ladies and men, while the level 2 free skating pairs of Robert Fougere and Kailey Stewart took home the first medal of their discipline, the gold!
● Alpine athletes had a great day on the hill with divisioning for giant slalom.
● Snowshoers had an awesome day on the track after the disappointment of not competing the day before. Team Canada took home 3 silver medals in the 800m, and 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze in the 100m!
● Cross country skiers Tracey Melesko and Justin Sigal also had a winning day, taking home gold and silver in the 5km Classic, respectively!
Interesting Facts
● Since her involvement with Special Olympics Figure Skating athlete JorDen Tyson has gone from a size 18 to a size 4, losing almost 50 pounds!
● Peter Snider from Ontario, is posted as the fastest man on shoshoes! His fastest time overall was 14.65 seconds for the 100m!
● There are two refs at speedskating who are Special Olympics Austria athletes that have taken the officiating course and are on the ice to ref their fellow athletes at a World Games!
