It’s time to applaud Special Olympics Canada’s volunteers.

There are 22,000 Special Olympics volunteers – including more than 14,000 coaches – across the country, who are transforming the lives of Canadians with an intellectual disability through sport each and everyday.

From coast to coast, these volunteers work tirelessly to support Special Olympics athletes in their community, city, province and country. To our dedicated volunteers: we applaud you for giving countless hours to the Special Olympics movement, while asking for nothing in return.

Our volunteers give their all to cheer on athletes – now it’s time for us to cheer for them.

For National Volunteer Week (#NVW2020), we asked them to share WHY they do what they do. Here is Special Olympics Nova Scotia's coach Donna Hoar’s WHY:

"I volunteer for ME! The pure joy and love of life experienced through interacting with our athletes is unmatched anywhere else." -- Donna hoar, special olympics nova scotia
