Angela

Angela Reid is a passionate monthly donor with Special Olympics Canada and has been for years. “I really believe in the work Special Olympics does,” said Angela. “As a donor, I know that each month I’m helping children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities participate in their community, not only in my hometown, but across the country.”

Angela has seen the impact of her support firsthand through her 28-year-old brother Dan, who has an intellectual disability.  He plays basketball with a Special Olympics’ community program in Aurora. “I’ve seen the struggles he’s gone through growing up and the sense of belonging he’s now gained from Special Olympics,” she said. “For someone with an intellectual disability, there’s nothing greater than having access to a group of people that totally understand and support you. That type of opportunity has been really key for my brother and for my entire family.”

As a donor, Angela feels like an integral part of Special Olympics – a group of people committed to making the world more inclusive.

“No matter the size of your contribution, every single donor plays a role,” she said. “Any budget can donate monthly. It’s not something only a rich person can do.”

“Each month I know my support helps athletes like my brother find a sense of community and confidence – both on and off the field.”
