Please join us in celebrating
Global Week of Inclusion, July 15-21!

Global Week of Inclusion is a week dedicated to actions and conversations to help create a world where all people are included.

Too many Special Olympics athletes are far too familiar with the pain of isolation and exclusion. Canadians with intellectual and developmental disabilities are still too often left out – on playgrounds, from the workforce, from conversations.

Together, we can break down barriers and empower Canada’s more than 800,000 individuals with an intellectual disability. No one deserves to be left on the sidelines.

We can create a better tomorrow when we #ChooseToInclude today.

Be a Champion of Inclusion

ACTIVITY #1: ATHLETES, CREATE YOUR ONE-OF-A-KIND ANTHEM!

OOAKA

At Special Olympics Canada, we know that sport has a transformative power.

Music shares a similar power.

Much like sport, music has the unique ability to act as a universal connector, bringing people together and creating shared experiences.

The new One-of-a-Kind Anthems program will harness that power to unleash the voices of the more than 42,000 Special Olympics athletes across Canada by giving each of you your very own anthem.

Athletes, create your One-of-a-Kind Anthem today:

  1. Visit www.oneofakindanthems.ca
  2. Answer a few questions based on your personality, preferences and unique story
  3. Download your One-of-a-Kind Anthem and share it with your friends

Whether you're training for your next event or celebrating a victory, your anthem will be there to motivate and uplift you.

Create your Anthem now!

ACTIVITY #2: SHARE THAT YOU #CHOOSETOINCLUDE

Follow these three easy steps to show us you Choose To Include:

  1. Take a photo of yourself (on your own, or with friends/family, if safe to do so) holding a sign that reads “I #ChooseToInclude” (Keep the sign simple – or get creative!)

    Open PDF Download PDF
  2. Post the photo (make sure the sign, message and your face are visible) to social media with #ChooseToInclude & @SpecialOCanada
  3. Tag at least one friend encouraging them to #ChooseToInclude with you.

ACTIVITY #3: FOLLOW THE INCLUSION MOVEMENT

Follow @SpecialOCanada on social media to hear more stories of Special Olympics athletes and fellow Champions of Inclusion.

ACTIVITY #4: JOIN OUR TEAM

At Special Olympics, our athletes, volunteers and coaches live the true meaning of sport every day - redefining what it means to win. Winning is about more than just medals or podium finishes - it's about pride, self-confidence and friendship.

Our Podium embodies the true spirit of sport. Because for us, sport is about more than rewarding a single individual. It’s about creating an inclusive community in which we elevate each other.

Take a stand on Our Podium:

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility (IDEA) at the core of Special Olympics Canada

Special Olympics Canada (SOC) and its Chapters recognize and value individual differences in identity, perspective, and lived experience. We encourage and support participation in our organization of all segments of Canadian society and are committed to creating and sustaining a safe, accessible, diverse, and inclusive environment. In doing so, SOC and its Chapters will promote and reflect Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in our governance, programs, and operations.
