How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
For 11 years.
How is your life different since joining Special Olympics?
Special Olympics has had a huge impact on my life. I feel honoured to have the opportunity to coach and volunteer with the athletes, their families, friends and caregivers. It is hard to put into words how my life has changed, my whole perspective has shifted. I see athletes showing strength, determination and resilience everyday wherever they play their sport which helps build their confidence in other areas of life in community, work and at home. Experiencing that as a coach and volunteer inspires me to do more, be more and to try my best no matter the outcome.
What do you like most about the sport you will be competing in at Special Olympics World Summer Games Berlin 2023?
This will be the first time that Special Olympics Team Canada will be competing in Women's Soccer, history in the making, what a great accomplishment. The sport of Soccer or Football, (the name is often debated), is the most popular sport in the world by a vast majority.
What is your proudest moment with Special Olympics?
It is seeing the sense of accomplishment on the faces of the athletes when they have achieved a skill in the sport such as scoring a goal or basket. Seeing the family members watch their loved one score a goal or make a save, seeing the joy and elation on their faces is something you never forget.
What does Special Olympics and attending World Games mean to you?
It is a privilege and an honour to be part of the Special Olympics Team Canada, having the opportunity to support such skilled and dedicated athletes through the training and into competition is just the best experience as a coach.
