Biography:
Kristina Richard, 23 from Antigonish, NS, has been a Special Olympics athlete for 13 years. Her favourite sport is track and field, she also bowls and plays floor hockey. Kristina has won several ribbons at the Regional Games, over 40 medals at Provincial Games, and eight medals at National Games. Kristina credits Special Olympics with helping her to overcome shyness and build confidence. She says she now is a happier person and finds it easy to meet people and make new friends. Being part of Team Canada and competing in the World Games is a dream come true. She is planning on winning a medal to help her team. Kristina works at the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) and is involved with ‘Best Buddies,’ a program that matches adults with intellectual disabilities with students who are looking to develop friendships and social opportunities.
