Special Olympics Team Canada continues to impress in Berlin!
Monday saw many sports start their official rounds of competition — and Team Canada drove its medal count even higher.
hard work pays off
COMPETITON HIGHLIGHTS
- It was an awesome day for athletics athletes. They picked up four medals — including a gold from Nova Scotia’s Christian Gerro.
- Rhythmic gymnastics had another huge day, with athletes picking up three medals. Manitoba’s Rebecca Birss led the way, winning a gold and a bronze.
- Bocce players showed skill and determination during a busy day on the courts. Manitoba’s Jennifer Adams and Ontario’s Laura Stremble finished strong by capturing gold in Women’s Doubles.
- The Canadian soccer squad won 6-1 over Bangladesh. A big reason for the win was the brilliant goaltending of Saskatchewan’s Terra Dagenais.
- Swimmers were in fine form on their second day of divisioning. Each athlete put up impressive times but the 4x50m medley relay with all 4 male swimmers was the standout, ending the day with high energy.
- Golfers had their first day of divisioning and got a feel for the courses.
IN The spotlight
Alberta’s Kyle Vogelgesang was so proud of his bocce teammates during their first day of competitive play.
“I thought my team was awesome today. They all went out there and did their best and tried their hardest. They did a good job!”
He says it’s an honour to wear the maple leaf, and he’s really enjoyed playing with the other Canadian bocce players.
“It feels so amazing to represent our county and show what we can do!”
