How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

For 19.5 years, since September 2003

How is your life different since joining Special Olympics?

Special Olympics has been a huge part of my life from grade school through to my professional life. As I've navigated what career path I was going to take, the journey of establishing and accelerating my professional life, my social circle and many important life experiences, Special Olympics has been at the center. When I reflect on who I've become, the experiences I've had, the goals I'm yet to achieve and the places I wish to go, Special Olympics has and will be a important factor in all of it. Working with Special Olympics Athletes at all levels and working with amazing people who share a passion of working with our Special Olympics Athletes has had a huge influence on who I am.

What do you like most about the sport you will be competing in at Special Olympics World Summer Games Berlin 2023?

I love the pace of swimming competitions; both the sprints and distance races are always exciting. I love the energy levels that swim competitions create and seeing the athletes give it their all. Although swimming is an individual sport, the team environment is always amazing to see how the athletes support one in another for their pursuit of personal bests while focusing on their personal performance.

What is your proudest moment with Special Olympics?

Hard to pick one, but overall, my proudest Special Olympics moments come from an athletes performance or experiencing how their involvement has become life changing for them and their families. Usually after a major milestone of finally making a competition/travel team. The joy, fulfillment and confidence boost that our athletes get from their involvement with SO is what makes me proud to help facilitate their journeys.

What does Special Olympics and attending World Games mean to you?

Being apart of Special Olympics Team Canada is an honour. To be apart of a national team representing Canada is a privilege. Being a team member to support the athletes journey to be their best and to support the coaching staff to get the athletes to their best is a humbling experience.

What is your goal for Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023?

My goal for Berlin 2023 is for our team to create lifelong memories and positive life

experiences for all involved. Of course, we are sport, and I hope for personal best performances for each of our athletes. But at the core my goal is to ensure the framework is set for all those on the team to experience life changing experiences.
