How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
I have been involved for 11 years. I joined in June 2010 in Athletics because I was trying to become healthier and stay fit.
How is your life different since joining Special Olympics?
I have made lots of friends and I am no longer overlooked.
How have you been preparing yourself for competition?
I train 5 times a week on the ice. I also do ballet and yoga (to keep limber), and train in rhythmic gymnastics. I workout at home to make sure that I am strong for my sports everyday.
What is the biggest challenge you have overcome in your life?
How others perceive who I am. I have autism but that does not define me – I am an athlete.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I have achieved my dream of becoming an athlete!
What does Special Olympics and attending World Games mean to you?
It means that I get to participate in reaching for my goals and staying focused.
