The 10th Annual Special Olympics Saskatchewan Curling Bonspiel, in partnership with Curl Regina, took place on January 25 and 26, 2025 at the Caledonian Curling Club in Regina. This year, we welcomed a total of 13 teams from around Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Our 5 Saskatchewan teams were Team Fiedelleck (Melfort), Team Dickie (Swift Current), Team Goebel (Swift Current/Moose Jaw), Team Barth (Regina), and Team Nagy (Regina) with the remaining 8 teams joining us from Brandon and Winnipeg.

Our teams gathered at the curling rink Saturday morning and participated in round robin competition. Saturday afternoon, we had the honour of welcoming a very special guest to our bonspiel. Marcia Gudereit, a former Olympic Curling gold medalist, joined us Saturday afternoon and evening to catch some of the action. She also spoke to our athletes prior to supper on Saturday and brought her gold medal for everyone to see. We closed out the evening with a tasty meal followed by a special cake in celebration of our 10th year!

Sunday morning kicked off with the final round robin draws, followed by our medal rounds. Our division 1 medalists were Team Griffiths (Manitoba) taking the gold, Team McLaren (Manitoba) taking silver, and Team Fiedelleck (Melfort) taking the bronze. Our division 2 medalists were Team Chambers (Manitoba) coming away with the gold, Team Jones (Manitoba) with the silver, and Team Vokey (Manitoba) earning the bronze. We were also once again joined by Marcia Gudereit who assisted in the medal presentations to our winners.

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us make this year’s bonspiel possible. We’d like to once again thank Danita Zacharias and Curl Regina for their continued support and partnership with another successful event. We’d like to thank the amazing staff at the Caledonian Curling Club for taking care of our meals and ensuring everything ran smoothly. We want to say a big thank you to all our athletes and coaches for their hard work and dedication to their sport and to their teams. And we’d also like to say a big thank you to Marcia Gudereit for being a special guest and taking part in our event this year. We are honoured to have had her out!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone out next year for another weekend of curling fun and competition!
