Big rigs, big hearts, big results! On Saturday, September 9th, Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) officers and SOS athletes joined forces with Saskatchewan Truckers to raise money for Special Olympics Saskatchewan. There was an incredible show of support from over 40 Truck Drivers and 6 Truck Pull teams at the 17th annual Truck Ride and 10th annual Truck Pull.
The Truck Ride and Pull brings together our compassionate army of truck drivers as law enforcement officers escort them down Highway 1 and Highway 11 to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Saskatchewan athletes. This year, the excitement for the long route (Saskatoon to Regina) was high as we increased awareness across the province. With the help of everyone involved, a total of 20,000 was raised for Special Olympics athletes in the province!
The Ride concluded in Regina at the Turvey Centre with a BBQ meal of hotdogs, chips, and pop, provided by Jays Transportation, Safeway and the Knights of Columbus. This year saw huge numbers of members of the public joining us to welcome our truckers and cheer on the pull teams. Following the BBQ was the kick-off of our Truck Pull!
This year's Truck Pull had 6 teams who competed to pull a 15-tonne truck, 15 meters in the fastest time. After an intense “Pull-off” between the RPS Pullers team and the Regina Vipers Floor Hockey team, the RPS Pullers came out on top, followed by the Vipers with the "Most Spirited Team".
We are so grateful for the LETR support we received from our friends at Regina Police Service, Saskatoon PS, and the RCMP. Special thanks to the following: Jay’s Transportation, Slinkemo, 18-Wheels Training Services, Maximum Training, SaskTel Centre, SGI, Creek Construction, Hornoi Transportation, and everyone who supported the 2023 Truck Ride and Truck Pull!
We will see you all again next year!
