Special Olympics Saskatchewan Saskatoon and Prince Albert athletes had a great time this past weekend learning about the Athlete Leadership Program, Special Olympics, and delivering speeches!
Facilitated by Jackie Powell, athletes had the opportunity to learn about Special Olympics, writing speeches, and of course, delivering a speech. The 1.5 day course was packed full of conversations and stories, laughs, and growth!
In total, we had a fantastic group of 4 athletes and their mentors attend. The beginning of the day was all about writing a speech and developing skills and confidence in delivering a speech. Packed with valuable information, athletes and mentors worked together to create individual speeches for all occasions. Throughout the day, there was lots of great discussions, along with some time to actually practice speaking in front of individuals. At the end of the first day, athletes were already starting to feel confident in their speaking skills. To wrap up a busy day of learning, SOS brought out the games and pizza!
On day 2 of the training, athletes and mentors reviewed their materials from the previous day, then took some additional time to refine their speeches and practice one more time. To see the athlete's speeches from the weekend, visit our YouTube page here - everyone did an incredible job with their speech!
If you are ever looking for an athlete to come speak at an event, these athletes definitely know what to do! Many skills were refined, and creativity was sparked! We look forward to seeing how the athletes apply what they learned in their speaker training moving forward. To see the full weekend of pictures and fun, check out our Flickr page here.
