We are proud to announce Sue Gilchrist as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Special Olympics Alberta.
Sue joins us from the Winifred Stewart Association and Winifred Stewart Foundation where she served as the CEO over the past three years. She oversaw the daily operations of both organizations and worked in conjunction with both Boards to realize the respective goals, vision, and mission of each. At Winifred Stewart, she managed the strategic direction of both organizations, oversaw an effective fund development program, and implemented vital workplace systems.
Sue returns to Special Olympics Alberta after having served as the Vice President, Finance & Operations from 2016-2018.
During this period, Sue was instrumental in providing support and direction to over 1000 volunteers, while also collaborating with community partners to ensure that inclusion remained a priority for each project.
Beyond her expertise within Special Olympics, she brings years of nonprofit experience as a leader, visionary, and volunteer.
“We are incredibly lucky to have Sue returning to the organization as our next CEO. She is a versatile leader with outstanding interpersonal skills whose vision will be critical as we enter the next phase of our movement. Sue brings vast experience through her tenure with Winifred Stewart and her intimate knowledge of Special Olympics is immensely valuable.” – Deb MacPherson, Special Olympics Alberta Board Chair
Sue’s passion for the movement has remained unwavering and she is already excited to make an impact in our community and beyond.
Sue will commence her new role on Monday, January 24 and she can be reached at sgilchrist@specialolympics.ab.ca, so please join us in welcoming her back to the organization.
