Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Sport for Good Legacy Award

Special Olympics Canada is thrilled to announce that the organization will be the recipient of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Sport for Good Legacy Award. This award, which has been created in honour of the 70th Anniversary of the Order of Sport Awards, is in recognition of an organization whose vision, dedication, and transformative contributions have fundamentally shaped Canadian sport and society.

This is an incredible honour bestowed to only two legacy organizations in Canada and our congratulations goes out to the other recipient, the Canada Games Council.  The 2026 Order of Sport Awards will be presented on November 4th at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, QC.

While this recognition belongs to everyone who is a part of the Special Olympics community, we wanted to take a moment to specifically acknowledge the contributions of Dr. Frank Hayden, who we recently lost. His passion, dedication and lifelong commitment built a movement that has impacted millions of athletes, their families and communities across Canada and around the globe. A special thank you also to every Special Olympics athlete and volunteer, who continue to educate Canadians every day about what true inclusion means.

Congratulations to all the 2026 inductees this year
