While Suzanne (Susie) Smith may not have competed at the 2020 Special Olympics Winter Games, she is no stranger to high level competition. Susie was a member of Team Canada twice, competing in Swimming at both the 2003 World Summer Games in Dublin, Ireland and the 1999 World Summer Games in North Carolina, USA. Two other Team PEI 2024 5-Pin Bowling athletes have also been members of Team Canada. Jamie Trowsdale competed in Swimming at the 1995 World Summer Games in New Haven, USA while Glendon Arsenault competed in Softball at the 2011 World Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
Team PEI's 5-Pin Bowling coaches bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. Head Coach, Dave Morrow, has been a volunteer with Special Olympics PEI for 20 years. Dave is Head Coach of the Charlottetown 5-Pin Bowling program. He says that he hopes to use his years of experience and training to assist Team PEI athletes to reach their personal goals while competing, to teach the true meaning of good sportsmanship, and ensuring that everyone is having an enjoyable time. Dave is returning to the 5-Pin Bowling coaching role after also coaching Team PEI 5-Pin Bowling for the 2020 Special Olympics Winter Games in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Assistant Coach, Carole Ann French, has also been a volunteer with Special Olympics PEI for 20 years. In addition to being a program volunteer at Charlottetown 5-Pin Bowling, Carole Ann is the Head Coach of the Charlottetown Bocce program. Joining the 5-Pin Bowling coaching staff is Apprentice Coach, Lynda Hontscharowicz. Lynda has been a volunteer with Special Olympics PEI for 13 years. She first got involved with Special Olympics to get her brother, Team PEI Cross Country Ski athlete, Tommy Ling, into programs.
