Surge in Golf Coaches and Program Volunteers

SOPEI golf programs

When you have a passion for golfing, why not share it!

Jeff MacBurnie started volunteering in the Adult Community Sport program last winter and then heard from the Metcalfe family that SOPEI was looking for more Golf program volunteers as the previous coaches moved out of the province and could no longer fill the role. After hearing of this need, he and his friend Shayne Hogan, another avid golfer, had a conversation about filling this coaching opportunity.  Shayne and Jeff were both head coaches for this summer's Charlottetown Golf Program hosted at the Belvedere Golf and Country Club each week, and saw the resurgence of golf in the region with 4 new golfers!

In Montague, 2 new program volunteers came to join the SOPEI Golf program from separate paths. Although both Zachary Arsenault and Trey VanColen had recently graduated from Montague High School, and both answered the call when they heard that with the new health regulations more support was needed for the program.  Zac plays high-level hockey but was not travelling due to Covid-19 and had some time to volunteer. Trey's aspirations in policing and knowing about the LETR involvement, decided now was a good time to sign up and share his expertise.

The Golf Head Coaches across PEI also include Louis Shea, Jamie Matheson and Craig Watson.

We are so appreciative when members of the community decide to become volunteers with our organization and welcome want to welcome these 4 to the SOPEI family.
