Special Olympics PEI is pleased to welcome Robert Horne as our new Board President. Read below to learn more about Robert.
Meet Robert Horne
Robert Horne joined Special Olympics PEI's Board of Directors in 2015, first as Treasurer, then as Vice President. Now, Robert is stepping into the role as Board President. He initially joined the Board after being inspired while attending the Enriching Lives Gala. He felt compelled to positively contribute to the Special Olympics movement here in PEI.
Robert is a Partner with Fitzpatrick & Company, a firm which are also great supporters of Special Olympics PEI. In addition to attending the Enriching Lives Gala annually, they also support motionball PEI's Marathon of Sport (with Robert as Team Captain) and several of their Partners, including Robert, support the Team PEI Draft an Athlete fundraising campaign.
Robert is quick to take advantage of any opportunity to visit local, grassroots programs, and get to know the athletes. He has played in some exhibition softball and floor hockey games, for example, over the years.
When asked about his favourite Special Olympics moment, Robert has a few, including the Opening Ceremonies and competitions at the Special Olympics Canada 2018 Bowling Championships, hosted in PEI. Robert also fondly recalls attending the Special Olympics Nova Scotia Summer Games in 2018 with his wife and 1 month old baby. While there he witnessed the sportsmanship and energy of all the athletes who he had the opportunity to interact with. And, of course, the Enriching Lives Gala and motionball Marathon of Sport are always highlights each year!
