WEDNESDAY COMPETITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Powerlifters are owning the podium. Josée Seguin had an incredible day with four gold medals.

  • Bowlers were rocking their “strike pose” during a successful day at the lanes. This included Saskatchewan’s Ian Cushon and Alberta’s Marc Richardson winning gold in men’s doubles and Nova Scotia’s Caroline Thibault and New Brunswick’s Shannon Doiron taking gold in the women’s event.

  • In the pool, New Brunswick’s Jesse Canney swam his way to two golds.

  • Rhythmic gymnastics added more medals to their impressive tally. Their great day included B.C.’s Jodi Klukas winning a gold, a silver and two bronzes.

  • Athletics athletes continued to tear up the track. Prince Edward Island’s Jeremy Wall and British Columbia’s Jolyn Watts led the way with golds.

  • The men’s basketball team continued their strong team play with a 35-5 win against South Africa.

  • The women’s soccer team had an action-packed day. First, they won 4-0 over South Korea, then they dropped a 0-2 match to Belgium. Quebec’s Geneviève Baillargeon was a top player in both games.

  • In bocce action, the women gave their all in singles play.

  • Golf athletes showed perseverance as they powered through hot weather on the courses.

  • The women’s basketball team played hard, but came up short in a 15-43 loss to Mali.

IN The spotlight

Kelsey Wyse

British Columbia’s Kelsey Wyse was pumped after her relay team’s come-from-behind victory.

With Canada down to its last of four swimmers in the semifinal, they were behind almost an entire length of the pool.

Then, Quebec’s Miori Hénault entered the water.

“She’s the fastest — she’s a speed demon!” Wyse says.

Hénault powered her way down the pool and back, and by the time the splashes had settled — Canada was first.

“I was excited, and I was like, ‘Way to go girls!’ And there were a lot of high-fives!” Wyse says.
