FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Special Olympics Yukon (SOY) is pleased to announce that its office re-opened today and that a “return to play” is slated for Monday, June 15.

Due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, SOY suspended all programs and events on March 13, followed by the announcement that the SOY office would close its doors on March 16.

SOY staff continued to work from their homes during which time they created and implemented a virtual programming initiative titled #BreakUpTheBoredom and as of today launched a virtual event called the “Be Active Yukon 30 day Challenge” which is a fun “step counting” activity that encourages all Yukoners to be physically active during these interesting times.

Given the recent ease of restrictions by the Yukon Government (Phase 1) and the guidance provided by Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health with regards to a “return to play”, the SOY Board of Directors approved plans to resume operations.

The plan to resume operations is designed to follow the present day Government of Yukon orders with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The goal is to slowly re-open as the priority is to keep the members of Special Olympics Yukon safe.

If you require more information on Special Olympics Yukon’s plans to resume operations or the Be Active Yukon 30 day Challenge, please contact the Special Olympics Yukon CEO, Serge Michaud, at 668-6511.
