Volunteers change lives

National Volunteer Week 2026 was from April 19 to 25, recognizing the outstanding volunteers who pour their hearts into everything they do!

From organizing year-round programs and events to coaching athletes on the playing fields, Special Olympics BC volunteers are vital to the inclusivity, strength, and togetherness of our movement.

They create much-needed spaces and opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to find friendship, purpose, and community.

We are eternally grateful to all the volunteers who devote their time and energy to Special Olympics BC!

#NVW2026 Contest

In celebration of National Volunteer Week 2026, current volunteers were invited to nominate a fellow volunteer who has made a positive impact. This contest is now closed and the winners have been contacted, thank you for participating!

Special Olympics BC volunteer coaches like Daria Ungurean are making sport, health, and youth programs possible with their dedication.
I love interacting with our athletes and watching their confidence grow from year to year. They have taught me more about life than I could ever teach them.

Spending time with the athletes is my favourite part of volunteering. No matter how my personal or professional life is going, I am always uplifted hanging out with such a positive and energetic group of people.
