We often receive questions from athletes and families about recommended health care providers and who to visit for their health concerns. To help fill this gap, Special Olympics BC is developing a public list of Inclusive Health Care Providers—those with proven experience caring for, and working with, people with intellectual disabilities.

With your help, we are looking to expand this list to include health care providers across British Columbia. If you know any health practitioners who would be interested in this opportunity, please click here to suggest them for consideration. Special Olympics BC will reach out to them to ask if they would like to be included on the upcoming list.

Thank you for helping create #InclusiveHealth!

Training for health-care providers

We realize many health practitioners may wish to work more with people with intellectual disabilities but are not sure where to begin. We recommend the following learning modules within the Health Professional Training offered by Special Olympics

  • Introduction to Intellectual Disabilities (45 minutes)
  • Special Olympics Health (30 minutes)
  • Supporting Families through the Intellectual Disability Diagnosis (45 minutes)

There are additional modules available, as well as opportunities through volunteering with the Healthy Athletes program. Special Olympics BC warmly welcomes caring health-care providers to contact us so we can support you in your inclusive journey.
