Auction for Athletes 2026: Driving courage, community, and inclusion

Thanks to the champions of inclusion in the New Car Dealers community, the 2026 Auction for Athletes raised $250,000 in support of Special Olympics BC’s dedicated athletes and life-changing programs across the province.

The funds will support Special Olympics BC’s year-round sport, youth, and health programs for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as help the New Car Dealers Foundation of BC award automotive industry grants and scholarships.

Running from April 14 to 17, this year’s online auction brought together supporters from across British Columbia to champion Special Olympics BC and the New Car Dealers Foundation of BC.

For more than 40 years, the New Car Dealers Association of BC and our Foundation have stood alongside Special Olympics BC, and in that time, we have seen firsthand the life-changing impact of sport.
Blair Qualey, President & CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC

“Working in partnership to raise millions of dollars to support athletes across the province is something we are incredibly proud of. Supporting the Auction for Athletes is about continuing that legacy, giving back to our communities, and helping ensure these athletes have every opportunity to thrive.”

Online auction bidders won sought-after items and experiences including new cars, electronics, autographed memorabilia, sporting goods, gift cards, and more.

Funds raised in the auction will empower athletes with intellectual disabilities participating in year-round programs across the province, including the dedicated members of the Special Olympics Team BC 2026 Training Squad who are preparing to compete with pride in the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in August in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

“Being part of Special Olympics can give you a real sense of community and being included, and this is very rewarding and meaningful,” said SOBC – Campbell River athlete Patrik Lowe.

Including Lowe, the Special Olympics Team BC 2026 Training Squad is comprised of more than 205 athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities, 73 volunteer coaches, and 18 mission staff, from more than 42 communities across British Columbia.

“If you enjoy playing and competing in sports, and would like the opportunity to meet people and make friends, Special Olympics is a great way to do that.”

Proceeds raised from Auction for Athletes help athletes like Lowe access high-quality training and meaningful competition experiences like showing their skills at National Games.

Heartfelt thanks to the New Car Dealers Association of BC, as well as the generous auction donors, sponsors, and bidders who made a difference in the 2026 Auction for Athletes.
