When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I was roped in by a friend to help out at an alpine ski practice.
Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?
This will be my third National Games. I was a coach at the National Games in summer 2018 and mission staff in winter 2020.
What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?
It means that I get to represent B.C. again and be part of the best provincial team in the country!
What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?
I would like to make sure that every member on the team comes home with a smile on their face!!
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
All my experiences have been pretty awesome considering I use my vacation days to be able to take part in any Special Olympics event!
What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)
Competing in the National Games gives athletes a sense of achievement. Their hard work at Regional Qualifiers, Provincial Games, and training has paid off!
What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?
Special Olympics has given back to me a place of belonging when times were tough for me at one point in my life. When things looked pretty awful I could go to a Special Olympics practice and athlete would bring a smile to my face. The athletes have always been so grateful for every volunteer that gives their time.
